NISP Quick Wins Workshop
Amy Silvester, Business Operations and Sustainability Adviser recently attended a lively and informative South East Quick Wins Workshop with the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP).
NISP is a free business opportunity programme that develops mutually profitable links between its member companies so that under-used resources such as energy, water and or materials from one are recovered, reprocessed an then re-used by others elsewhere in the industrial network.
However, NISP doesn’t just work with the companies producing the composites above. NISP members consist of companies from all industrial, commercial and retail sectors and include multinationals, SMEs and entrepreneurs. In short, all companies with something to offer can benefit from becoming a member of NISP; from the DigitalMeeting service Amy promotes through technilink iT Limited, to telephone answering companies and designers and architects.
NISP has 12 regional offices throughout the UK with more than 12,000 member companies. It is helping UK businesses to secure sustained profitability throughout the current economic downturn through its common sense approach to business resource management.
The Quick Wins Workshop provided a new and innovative networking experience for Amy as she explained. “You are split into groups and discuss what your business has to offer and what needs you may have with each member on the table.
Once you have discussed any potential synergies within the group, you write the ‘haves and wants’ on pieces of paper, which are in turn passed to each and every table in the room. The teams of specially trained industrial symbiosis practitioners then analyse the finding and identify any potential synergies. Practitoners then facilitate introductions to the appropriate company and continue to work with all parties involved to bring the synergy to fruition.
This is an excellent way of ensuring you get to know what every person in the room has to offer and I am looking forward to making contact with the businesses to discuss further opportunites.”
For more information on the benefits of joining NISP in your area, please go to their website www.nisp.org.uk and contact your local region representative.
